DARKROOM MAGAZINE REVIEW

Roberto Alessandro Filippozzi

ENGLISH VERSION

After the excellent “Music For Certain Rituals”, made together with The Illusion Of Silence, the acclaimed singer Aima Lichtblau (Allerseelen, Les Jumeaux Discordants, iNsCissorS) realizes another work based on some of the “Orphic Hymns” of late Hellenism, this time under the suggestive monicker Caverna Delle Rose, flanked by the well-known Trevor / Evor Ameisie (Northgate, Camerata Mediolanense) and by the musician / visual artist Diego Cinquegrana. And it is also the return in style of an extremely interesting label like the French Slaughter In Art, at the stake since 2009, returned at the end of last year with a high-level release published in four versions: Digipack CD complete with large booklet ( 500 copies), marbled green LP (60 copies), marbled blue LP (60 copies) and black LP (180 copies). As in the aforementioned album with TIOS, Aima is a vocal master of ceremonies in a work steeped in mysticism and archaic rituality, this time on the wings of a particularly powerful magnetism, well supported both by Diego’s synths and by Trevor’s instruments (primarily the decisive percussion). The rituality emerges immediately with force from the percussive vortex of “To Dionysius”, while the electric cello of the host Annamaria Bernadette Christian plays its part both in the more gloomy, dramatic and environmental “To Night”, and in the tense, dark, austere and evocative “To The Furies”. Magnetism becomes softly ceremonial in “To Sleep”, just as ritual becomes hypnotic in “Hyle. The Chant Of Creation.”, But it is always the multifaceted, intense and inspired song of Aima that acts as a guiding light, fading into liturgical together with that of Trevor in “To Corybas”; highly suggestive is also the spectral “To The Fates”, which hosts the acting of Angelo Tonelli’s caliber, while the concluding “To The West Wind”, sweet and symphonic (with Annamaria’s cello again), cannot fail to recall the Ataraxia more inspired. Honor to Aima, who signs another concept of great audiovisual charm, and to her friends in CDR, a new project that holds up the banner of Italy in the panorama of the most evocative dark sounds.
